Entrance Examination Eligibility

Faculty of Industrial Technology

As well as university entrance qualifications (such as graduation from a special-needs school or high school), candidates should have a hearing level of about 60 dB or more in both ears or find it impossible or very difficult to hear ordinary voices even with the use of a hearing aid.

Faculty of Health Sciences

As well as university entrance qualifications (such as graduation from a special-needs school or high school), candidates should have corrected eyesight less than about 0.3 in both eyes. Even with corrected eyesight of 0.3 or higher, candidates may apply if they have seriously impaired visual performance (field of view, etc.) or are at risk of suffering from deteriorating vision or decreased visual performance in the future.

Individual academic achievement tests require that an examination by the National Center for University Entrance Examinations be taken.

NTUT endorses this insurance system and recommends all students to participate in it when they enroll at the university. NTUT also bears a basic premium of \2,300 out of the above fees.

Scholarship / Tuition waivers

  • Under the admission fee exemption system, the admission fee is waived if the person bearing the cost of the fees passes away during the year leading up to admission or if payment becomes difficult due to some disaster.
  • The tuition fee exemption system has been extended from 2009 to include “students from households with a total annual income of \4.5 million or less” in order to improve students’ motivation to study and produce top quality graduates.
  • New students fulfill academic requirements when admitted to the university, so applicants under the new system who have a “total annual income of \4.5 million or less” are exempted from all or half of the tuition fees for a half-year term.
  • Tuition fee exemption system
    • Those applying for financial reasons
      • Conditions are academic achievement and household economic level (total income of about  8 million yen/year or less)
      • Conditions are academic achievement relaxation and household economic level (total income of about  4.5 million yen/year or less) [New]
    • Applicants with high academic ability (For new students, depending on entrance examination results)
    • Applicants on the president’s list
    • Applicants on second-chance support programs for people returning to education

The internal structure of the Graduate School of Technology and Science is as follows.

Qualifications for admission

NTUT is a university for hearing-impaired and visually-impaired people and so in addition to normal university entrance qualifications the following qualifications are also required.

Qualifications for admission to Division of Industrial Technology

A hearing level of about 60 dB or more in both ears, or an inability or difficulty in hearing ordinary voices even with the use of a hearing aid, and any one of the following course admission qualifications

Course of Information Science

  • Has obtained, or is expected to obtain, a bachelor’s degree in engineering or science
  • Has obtained, or is expected to obtain, a bachelor’s degree in engineering or science from an overseas university
  • Does not fall under the above but is deemed by NTUT through its individually conducted admissions qualification screening to have academic ability equivalent to or higher than the above-mentioned degree level

Course of System Engineering

  • Has obtained, or is expected to obtain, a bachelor’s degree in engineering or science
  • Has obtained, or is expected to obtain, a bachelor’s degree in engineering or science from an overseas university
  • Does not fall under the above but is deemed by NTUT through its individually conducted admissions qualification screening to have academic ability equivalent to or higher than the above-mentioned degree level

Course of Synthetic Design

  • Has obtained, or is expected to obtain, a bachelor’s degree in design, art or architecture
  • Has obtained, or is expected to obtain, a bachelor’s degree in design, art or architecture from an overseas university
  • Does not fall under the above but is deemed by NTUT through its individually conducted admissions qualification screening to have academic ability equivalent to or higher than the above-mentioned degree level

 

Qualifications for admission to Division of Health Sciences

Has corrected eyesight less than about 0.3 in both eyes, or a high level of deterioration in visual performance besides eyesight, that makes it impossible or very difficult to visually recognize ordinary text, diagrams, etc. even by using a magnifying glass, or is deemed to require special education in the future using methods such as Braille.

Course of Acupuncture and Moxibustion

  • Has obtained, or is expected to obtain, a bachelor’s degree and has also obtained, or is expected to obtain, three licenses to practice acupuncture, moxibustion, and manual therapy
  • Has graduated, or is expected to graduate, in acupuncture and manipulative therapy at an overseas university
  • Does not fall under the above but has obtained three licenses to practice acupuncture, moxibustion and manual therapy and is deemed by NTUT through its individually conducted admissions qualification screening to have academic ability equivalent to or higher than the above-mentioned degree level

Course of Physical Therapy

  • Has obtained, or is expected to obtain, a bachelor’s degree and has also obtained, or is expected to obtain, a license in physiotherapy
  • Has graduated, or is expected to graduate, in physiotherapy at an overseas university
  • Does not fall under the above but has obtained a physiotherapists license and is deemed by NTUT through its individually conducted admissions qualification screening to have academic ability equivalent to or higher than the above-mentioned degree level

Course of Information Science

  • Has obtained, or is expected to obtain, a bachelor’s degree in engineering or science
  • Has obtained, or is expected to obtain, a bachelor’s degree in engineering or science from an overseas university
  • Does not fall under the above but is deemed by NTUT through its individually conducted admissions qualification screening to have academic ability equivalent to or higher than the above-mentioned degree level
