Guideline

National University Corporation Tsukuba University of Technology (NTUT) is the only higher educational institute for the hearing and visually impaired in Japan. It consists of the three main organizations: Faculty of Industrial Technology for the hearing impaired, Faculty of Health Sciences for the visually impaired, and Research and Support Center on Higher Education for the Hearing and Visually Impaired.

Primary Goals of University

Our educational policy is based on consideration for disabilities and personalities of individual students. We have the following primary goals;

  1. We want our students to be professionals with a high degree of sophistication as well as solid vocational skills.
  2. We want our students to be socio -economically independent and to contribute to social development as leaders of the disabled.
  3. We will develop new methodologies of education for sensory disabled people and contribute to the improvement of their educational environment, not only in Japan but throughout the world.

To fulfill these goals we promote research on curriculum and methods for disabled students in higher educational institutions. Furthermore, we urge research in each field related to hearing and visual impairments and try to develop new systems as well as new devices of assistive technology in order to a create barrier-free educational environment.

Another role we should play is to support other universities and colleges which accept students with hearing and visual impairments in Japan and in other countries. We are seeking to work together with them to promote research and education for these disabled people.

One of our unique research objectives is in the field of combining Eastern and Western Medicine. We try to contribute to the health of local people through our particular medical services which combine acupuncture and Western Medicine.

Tsukuba University of Technology has the prospect of opening a graduate school to realize the goals mentioned above in higher-level education.
